3. Being Distracted
This should go without saying, but there are still candidates who think that it’s perfectly acceptable to text, answer calls, check social media, etc., during an interview. Obviously, construction hiring managers aren’t going to believe that the job is your main priority if you’re distracted. Ditch the mobile connection and connect with the person interviewing you; turn your phone off or leave it in the care altogether.
4. Following a Script
Since you don’t know what is going to be asked, learning how to improvise during an interview can be effective. Knowing how to do the job that you’re being considered for is just a small piece of the puzzle. Most construction firms also want their employees to become brand ambassadors too. Research the history of the company, mission statement, locations, recent projects, etc. Be prepared to share how familiar you are with them. Be present and don’t make the mistake of trying to follow a script.

Although it can be difficult to talk about past bosses neutrally, it’s important to show that you are able to work well with others, and handle conflict in a mature manner.
